Nearsightedness which is often caused by too much “near work” (computer, reading, school work, fine handiwork etc), can be prevented or reduced using reading glasses. In the last 30 years, prevalence of nearsightedness have increased by around 60% and most of that results from poor viewing habits during computer use and schooling. sciencenews.org Even the science series “NOVA” recognize that environment also plays a role in our health. www.pbs.org I have designed a fold-able reading stand to improve your posture and help maintain a good reading distance. Find the free PDF file here: www.mediafire.com Bifocal lenses and reading glasses (aka. plus lenses) are highly effective in preventing or at least slowing the development of nearsightedness. Bifocal lenses work by having reading lenses built into the lower half of regular perscription lenses. Incidences of nearsightedness or myopia, has increased dramatically in recent decades. This increase is caused primarily by excessive amounts of near tasks such as reading and computer use. This animation provides information on how to reduce and prevent nearsightedness. Together, we can make a difference! We would like to design an effective petition to further this cause. I welcome your ideas and request that you post them as video comments. Thank you

Nooo. Im starting too see blurry at the borad. I dont want to use glasse or do surhery or use lens. How can i prevent it i want to know please help me

  8. otissumnerbrown says:

Basic Science and Physics will tell you that the eye is “relaxed” when looking in the “distance”. The plus lens CREATES distant efferct on the natural eye. The result is that plus-PREVENTION can be sustained as presented in this vidoe. This is the second-opinion on optometry and ophthalmology.

it is not true un this clip, many kids with myopia of -3 D get worsen still, the real reason to get myopia is the overloading of academic learning during early ages.

There is nothing more blind than those who cannot see…..
    You are a myopic coward.

  14. batguin says:

Good. My brother also discarded his glasses a few weeks ago, and his acuity has improved by a quarter. There is a lot of evidence for using READING glasses for myopia prevention, try reading the ‘myopia manual’ by Klaus Schmidt (it’s free online). In layman’s terms, reading glasses works by reducing the effort that is needed to see things close up (the accommodation), minus glasses work the opposite way and increase the accommodation. Excess accommodation can increase myopia.

  15. dinkaDPB says:

what evidence you have that wearing glasses helps to stop deterioration of long distance vision? sure nutrition and straining the eye contribute but i believe people who wear glasses are ignorant of the strains and tensions in the head and eye muscles. They simply want to continue their unhealthy lifestyle and have no value for good quality healthy vision.

i stopped wearing glasses and did the eye exercises on youtube and my myopia problem has halved and my prescription halved in 1 week

  16. Adam6275 says:

To be fair there are a number of issues other then reading that also contribute to myopia. Poor nutrition and being indoor’s also are not helthy for the eye. Nutrition especially in the growing years when the eye is vulnerable. I had a terrible diet in my teen years and in my high school year my prescription went from mild to about -4.75 which it mostly has stayed at in on eye although the other got up to -7.5. So there are a number of factors involved.

  17. batguin says:

Actually, this ‘locking up’ is generally accepted by orthodox optometrists — it’s called nearwork-induced transient myopia. However; orthodox optometrists believe this type of myopia is only temporary and need not be relieved. Prevention minded optometrists believe that nearwork-induced transient myopia usually precedes axial myopia (elongation of the eyeball), so if you can relieve it, you will also stop the onset of axial myopia. Wearing plus glasses is just one such way to relieve it.

  18. obeith says:

This is rubbish, the claims are unfounded. It has also been proven that underprescribing children can also create myopia as it causes the eyes to be put under extra stress trying to focus.

If the theories in this film were true then every child going through school who reads for any period of time will have their eyes lock up and therefore should be prescribed “reading glasses”
Perhaps if they wish to create a helpful video they should actually do some research with profesionals first

  19. batguin says:

Indeed. If you are born with congenital myopia, then reading glasses will not help your condition. Most people have what is called ‘acquired’ myopia. ‘Congenital’ myopia is very rare condition that affects only a tiny percentage of the population.

  20. batguin says:

To date, the optical industry has shown little interest in identifying myopia prevention methods, and is still trying to cling to outdated theories. One reason for this lack of progress is public apathy. As the idea that myopia is unpreventable is ingrained into the public consciousness, it’s easy for the industry to ignore the issue of prevention. Videos like this are needed to raise public awareness of prevention, and to pressure the industry into increasing prevention research funding.

  21. Teslaclawer says:

Mhmm, Yeah I’m gunna wear reading glasses to prevent Myopia when I WAS BORN WITH MYOPIA!!! Not everyone is born with perfect vision… m.m

  22. AtheistJohn says:

Thanks for the resource. Still, even in Dr. Klaus’ manual, the issue is not as clear cut as this video implies.

Read the comments here and you find people who are led by this vid to believe that their vision correction is just making the problem worse. That’s irresponsible and intellectually dishonest.

This fight should be taking place in scientific tests & journals in order to advise professionals who understand the data rather than inciting neophites to not trust their doctors.

  23. batguin says:

For a comprehensive review of the scientific research available supporting myopia prevention, I recommend that you read the ‘myopia manual’ by Dr Klaus Schmid (just google it, it’s available as a free PDF.)

  24. AtheistJohn says:

I’m very skeptical of this pseudo-scientific information. where is the scientific work regarding the claims on this video? The links to supporting evidence do not in fact support these claims. So, I believe it’s more likely that this video is not correct. If these claims are true then please produce/link to some clear evidence.

  25. MrDrRobotsSr says:

    Should I feel bad that this was one of my recommended videos? And I do have really fucked up eyes. Damn you youtube for being so good at judging people. ;__;
